Good morning Job holders

It's so weird that I'm stressed when I haven't seen a paycheck in two months anyway, if only I had quit two months ago I wouldn't be so stressed right now, I'd have a job.

Looked at Craigslist briefly, found a guy that gives a 50/50 commission split on stock footage sold. I have a lot of stock footage, might throw some footage up, see if I can make a couple of bucks. I guess there are advantages to shooting EVERYTHING for 12 years. Hey Kate, Sandy, can get an image rights release from everybody at your wedding? Got addresses on that? Never mind, I'll find them. What's Jenny's husband's name again?

So I'm in the middle of editing the awesome video from last week's rent party. Very funny, should be up tomorrow. Just having a relaxing afternoon of editing and writing. I could do this professionally.

I found the best site ever. Remember Power Records?

pr308146pr24

I found mp3's of some of them online. I had so many of these and listened to them over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Those three pictured are my favorites, but the one's I could find on the list of records they produced that I had were.

Spider-Man: Mark of the Man-Wolf
The Fantastic Four: The Way It Began
Batman: Robin Meets Man-Bat
Batman: The Scarecrow's Mirages
Spider-Man: The Mad Hatter of Manhattan
Superman: Witherspoon's Catalyst
Batman: Gorilla City
Superman: The Killer Bees
Superman: P.O. Box

I would love to have a complete collection of these, if for nothing else the cover art, but listening to them again after all these years is awesome, I am immediatly a child, imagination running wild when I listen to these, and I still know all the words. "Could you pour me a Coke out of that dipper?" - that's the joke the jock tells while Peter Parker is trying to take their Astronomy Teachers lecture seriously. They're so vivid in their description, great storytelling. The Man-Bat one is priceless. Before VCR's or Cable how could you experience your favorit pop culture over and over? You had to listen to it. The Story of Star Wars album is so worn it looks like sandpaper.

14

It was great because it was all real audio clips from the movie with only brief narrator passages to edit the story for time. For at least a full month or two and intermittently thereafter I would come home from school, put on that record and act the movie out. Every. Day. It explains a lot. I loved getting to say "hell" because Han saying "what the hell are you doing?" is on the album

The one I never had that I've always wanted, just because I'm kind of obsessed with Man-Thing, is The Man-Thing: Night of the Laughing Dead. Man-Thing was a disturbing comic when I was a kid, it was so weird and written in the second person "But you are not a human, you are a monster..." and "Night of the Laughing Dead" is such a disturbing thought, Laughing Zombie, laughter echoing through the Everglades where Man-Thing lives. ON A KIDS RECORD. Someday I look forward to hearing it, and remaking the Man-Thing movie properly.

I can't believe they fucked up the Man-Thing movie, it is NOT a hard concept, but an interesting one.

I quit my job

It was the most impulsive thing I've ever done, just decided and did it. It was exciting to work for a production company, but I'm not producing, I'm just a salesman. We made a great movie. I've gotten this next movie off the ground and may still work crew on the shoot but I need to be writing, producing, directing, acting, voice-overing. Even if all I get is uninterrupted writing time for the remainder of this week before I need to start looking seriously for a job that will have been enough, my parents are in town this weekend, so I would be taking Friday off anyway. I need to get my feature film concepts in line I need to have scripts, the preparation to meet my opportunities. So I'm boogieing down today. I owe Sean Cusick some scripts. I owe Paul Leuer a few synopsis'. I owe Schadenfreude.net some kickass videos, so that's all this week off is getting caught up with my creative life so I don't want to blow my head off when I go get a job. The last thing I want is to go back to work having accomplished nothing. Here's how it broke down. It's unfortunate I had to quit because I think Strata's next project would've made me a lot of money, they'll be attaching actors in a few weeks and nothing sell's to investors like name talents. But, I don't know, I just feel this is what I needed to do. I had the following conversation with my writing partner on Blue World. Who terminated his sales position within the company a week ago leading me to a lot of deep thought.

AIM IM with Charley
2:50 PM

Charley: how goes the day?
Adam: I just hate this
Charley: quit
Adam: gotta find a job
Charley: find one
Adam: working on it
Charley: you got any prospects?
Adam: no
Charley: for deals i mean
Adam: no
Charley: quit
Charley: right now
Charley: just leave
Adam: I should
Charley: find a job over the next couple of days or week
Adam: I don't think I'm doing anyone any favors
Charley: nope
Charley: especially yourself
Adam: Do you know how many projects I should be working on right now?
Charley: so quit..........why waste your time.......i'm not trying to be devils advocate, but what else are you gonna do......waste your time there and maybe you'll make money or get a job and do other things
Adam: I would be in the same financial position if I'd quit two months ago.
Charley: yup.....probably better off though
Adam: oh god yes
Charley: xxxxxx is moping around the house cause he can't find a job and he doesn't know what he wants to do and we've had like three weeks of pep talks and stupid shit the worst thing is that he could do anyhting but has no desire or passion for anything
Adam: that's most people
Charley: exactly, you know what you want to do
Adam: unlike most people
Charley: you know that you're not going to be able to do it there
Adam: yeah
Charley: so why are you still talking to me from there?
Adam: I so can't answer that question
Charley: here's an easy question then what do you want to do with your life?
Adam: sales, wait, no, Create
Charley: ok.....how do you do that?
Adam: create
Charley: so whats your first step towards that?
Adam: create
Charley: than do it........and find a way to support yourself that doesn't kill you on the inside
Adam: There's tons of jobs
Charley: tons of them everywhere, go work at the coffee shop down the block from me
Adam: okay, I'll quit.
Charley: sorry about the super pep talk but i've been lecturing xxxxx all day
Adam: it's good.
Charley: and he isn't listening to a word any of are saying......
Adam: it's a long time coming, like a year
Charley: and its frustrating cause you need a change too
Adam: oh yes
Charley: so good.......we can go write tomorrow at uncommon ground
all day
Adam: paradise
Charley: it is. is Tag there?
Adam: yeah
Charley: you gonna tell him right now?
Adam: thinking
Charley: whats your argument about staying
Adam: this'll crack you up, safety, that's the only thing I can come up with. hahaha. Don't know why my mind goes there.
Charley: tell me about this safety which you are coveting so closely, when are you getting paid next?
Adam: never
Charley: what is your plan for the future in the company? is there room to grow?
Adam: See you at Uncommon ground tomorrow.

And I quit. So here I sit writing in my comfy pants. My bosses were happy to see me make the decision, they knew I was miserable and that I'm too creative to be on the phone. They told me to move to L.A. And I think my job search will start there.

I'm a big believer in symbolism and creating your day and all that positive thinking fru-fru. I just know something good will come of this decision. As I was contemplating quitting I went for a smoke with my book of the moment "Rebels On The Backlot" the story of the indie film movement through the tales of Tarantino, Soderbergh, Fincher, David O'Russell, and Spike Jonze. Knowing I'd probably come back up from the smoke and quit I told my fellow worker that "I'm about to read the most important passage of my life in this book." The sort of shit I throw out so that the universe will shift in my direction and give me direction, declaring something as symbolic. And then I read looking for the sign. Did you know John Ridley wrote the script for Three Kings in seven days and sold it in eighteen days. That's what I read.

Alright, time's a wastin'. I'll let you know how the day went.

Ironic addendum: I still have appointments I booked for the week before I quit and just talked to a guy who's going to invest. After not making money for two months in my sales job, I make a sale and commission the first day not in the office. haha.

The Unknown Blogger: The Reckoning!

Thank God for the Unknown Blogger, because I don't have time to write shit. I got the "Alderman" synopsis done and we're getting it to Paul Leuer, the director of "Eden Court" which we all worked on last year. He's pitching some ideas this week and we gave him Alderman. Fun. The only problem is that the story of Aldmerman isn't funny. It's a very funny screenplay, but the synopsis just reads like a chain of events, as a synopsis of Caddyshack would read I presume. "The Judge Smails chastises Danny on being with his neice and asks Danny if he'd like the scholarship" Anyway... The rest of the weekend, which just dissappears like mad now I spent doing Weekly Bits, which Sandy is now helping me on because I don't have enough time to pour through footage, I also went to short-haired chick Jen Ellison's show Invasion of the Minnesota Normals which was really really really good. And I rehearsed with Sean Cusick and the gang on this Skybox Show, which I don't have time for and feel I've done him a disservice by saying I could do it. So tonight we're continuing to rewrite Alderman and I gotta get this week's Screening Room done and meet Sean Cusick at the Second City skybox if there's time and meet Franky J. from the Lavendar Cabaret if there's time. You know what the problem is? This fucking job, that's 40 hours of very valuable time. Gotta find a way to make that go away. So that's my weekend. And now a man near and dear to my heart: The Unknown Blogger

You're a Bigot and a Knob, Now Shut Up!

In the last few years, as gay rights activists have pushed for equal protection under the law and the right to be married, there's been a lot of pushback from the white-ringers (er, sorry, right-wingers). These are religious-types mostly who are about 1000% Christian and toss around phrases like ìthe sanctity of marriage and aberration of nature and against Gods law. But at the end of the day, no matter how you wordsmith it or mask it in pseudo-piety, these men and women of God are purely and simply bigots.

These pimps of self-righteousness always cite the Bible. Ah yes, the Bible: it slices, it dices, it chops and hops and best of all itís the little black box that contains all the salvation for you and all the damnation for your enemies.

Did you know:

It is a crime, punishable by death, to curse your parents? (Lev 20:9)

It is a crime, punishable by death, for children to make fun of bald people? (2 Kings 2:23-24)

It is a crime, punishable by death, for a woman to not be a virgin on her wedding night (even if she was raped)? (Deut. 22:20-21)

It is a crime, punishable by death, to even TRY to help God? A man named Uzzah tried to stop the Ark of the Covenant from tipping over because of all the partying going on outside and was killed by God for it. (2 Samuel 6:3-7)

And the list goes on and on and on. All THESE capital crimes, well that was just zealousness which you have to put into context of the times. But if two men or two women deeply love, care for and respect each other, THOSE FUCKERS HAVE TO DIE! God forgive (pardon the expression) there's more love in the world.

You know how unimportant the issue of homosexuality is to God? It didn't even make his top 10 list! The next time you hear some fruity nut cake of a religious person railing about how God hates fags and they should all die, ask them how many times they scream in anger publicly about people who don't ìremember the Sabbath and keep it holy or people who don't honor their fathers and mothers.

These are so important to God that probably a good third of the Bible is centered around the people that were freed from Egypt so they could follow them, the tablets they're carved on, the ark that was made to carry them in and the nations that were obliterated that opposed them. Homosexuality is never, NEVER, listed as a reason to go to war or a law so important a nation should be founded to oppose it. Never. Nope.

There are only two conclusions that can be reached about the people who dedicate seemingly endless hours obsessing over the lives of homosexuals and bisexuals: either they think God was wrong (and therefore is fallible) for not making it one of the ten commandments or they're just prejudiced assholes who hate gays and justify their hate by clinging to a couple of loosely-worded entries tucked deep inside an ancient book somewhere.

If you think you have the answer, give me a call. Our lines are open.

As an interesting post script to this blog, on the way home from work I was passing a van that had all kinds of anti-gay banners on it. Thankfully I had my camera and took the following picture:

Van Banners 003b

Doesn’t that just say everything? To these bigots the issue of homosexuality eclipses the 10 Commandments – supposedly God’s most important message to the world.
